Evolving Pokemon can be one of the most effective ways to gain XP in Pokemon GO. It is also needed in order to complete your Scientist medal which in turn requires 2000 evolutions to complete the medal.
The best time to evolve Pokemon is during the evolution XP spotlight hours that occur usually once a month (depending on which spotlights Niantic choose to put on each month)
Evolving a Pokemon gives 1000 XP per evolution. During an evolution XP spotlight hour that is doubled to 2000 XP per evolution and the spotlight hour combined with a lucky egg rewards 4000 XP per evolution.
Each Pokemon has a different number of candies required to evolve. Aside from the ones that become candy free after trading, the cheapest Pokemon to evolve only require 12 candy.
Pokemon that require 12 Candies
There is currently 6 Pokemon that require 12 candy to evolve making them the cheapest in the game.
These Pokemon are
The impressively low requirement to evolve these Pokemon makes them some of the most desirable to catch and keep. They are also some of the most common spawns making it easy to stock up on them. Using a pinab berry when catching will give 6 candies meaning you’ll only need to catch 2 per evolution or 4 without pinabs.
Saving all these Pokemon and grouping them in a “tag” can make them easy to find for mass evolving during an evolution spotlight hour.
To “tag” a Pokemon, click the three lines in the bottom corner when viewing a caught Pokemon > then tag > then create new tag. The just select the Pokemon you want and select the tag you made to add that Pokemon to that tag category.
Be sure to stock up on these Pokemon to maximse the number of evolutions you can make for the least amount of candy!
