How to beat Arlo in Pokemon GO – April 2022

Cliff Sierra arlo

Arlo is one of the three team rocket GO leaders in Pokemon Go that you can encounter

In order to find him you’ll need to beat 6 rocket grunts to collect mysterious components to make a rocket radar or alternatively purchase a rocket radar directly from the in-game store for 200 coins.

Once you have the radar you can randomly encounter Arlo or one of the other rocket leaders from both rocket balloons and random pokestops located by activating and clicking on the rocket radar to find.

Its worth noting if you lose to Arlo you can rematch him as many times as needed with the same rocket radar so long as you dont back out from the match

Here is a comprehensive guide to how to beat Arlo and a breakdown of the team he can use. For guides on the other rocket leaders check out Sierra here and Cliff here

Advice to beat Arlo’s team

First and foremost, having something that generates charge moves quickly is essential to burn Arlo’s shields. The first two charge moves you use Arlo will shield.

Dragonite with Dragon breath (fast), Dragone Claw and Draco Meteor/Hurricane (Charged) Melmetal with Thundershock (fast), Rock slide and Superpower (Charged) and Tyranitar with Smackdown (Fast), Stone Edge and Crunch (Charged) is a solid generic team that charges moves fast and does well against all rocket grunts and leaders alike.

If your wanting a type specific team to beat Arlo then here is a good breakdown.

Pokemon 1

Arlo’s first Pokemon is Exeggcute. This is Psychic/Grass dual typing. It is double weak to Bug and also weak to Dark, Fire, Flying, Ice, Ghost and Poison. As Arlo’s second option Pokemon are all dragon typing Ice could be a sensible option to include in your team. Pokemon that would be strong against it include

  • Mamoswine – Powder snow (fast) Avalanche (charged)
  • Genesect – Fury Cutter (fast) X-Scissor (charged)
  • Escavalier – Bug bite (fast) Megahorn (charged)
  • Darmanitan (Galarian standard) – Ice fang (fast) Avalanche (charged)

Pokemon 2

All Arlo’s second option Pokemon have Dragon typing as one of their dual typings. This therefore makes Ice the optimal typing to use. Fairy Pokemon are also an excellent selection. Pokemon that would be strong against Arlo’s second options include

  • Mamoswine – Powder snow (fast) Avalanche (charged)
  • Darmanitan (Galarian standard) – Ice fang (fast) Avalanche (charged)
  • Togekiss – Charm (fast) Ancient power/Flamethrower (charged)
  • Sylveon – Charm (fast) Moonblast/Psystrike (charged)

Pokemon 3

The final Pokemon can be one of Scizor, Steelix or Gardevoir

Steelix is Ground/Steel dual typing. Steelix is weak to fighting, fire, ground and water. Pokemon that would be strong against it include

  • Lucario – Counter (fast) Power up punch/ Aura sphere (charged)
  • Machamp – Counter (fast) Cross chop (charged)
  • Melmetal – Thundershock (fast) Rock slide/Superpower (charged)
  • Empoleon – Waterfall (fast) Hydro Cannon (charged)

Gardevoir is Fairy/psychic dual typing. Gardevoir has powerful fast moves so will hit hard regardless of what you use to combat it. It has weakness to Ghost, Steel and Poison. Pokemon that would be strong against it include

  • Moltres – Fire spin (fast) Overheat (charged)
  • Heatran – Fire spin (fast) Blast burn/flamethrower (charged)
  • Blaziken – Fire spin (fast) Blaze kick/Blast burn (charged)
  • Darmanitan (standard) – Fire fang (fast) Overheat (charged)

Final words

There is no one set team that is ideal as Pokemon 2 and 3 for Arlo are random so their is no way of knowing what team he will have without battling him first.

Having a team that can burn through his two shields as fast as possible is definitely going to give you the biggest advantage

All rocket battles, leaders and grunts dont hit you for two moves after either they shield, they hit you with a charge attack, you shield or you hit them with a charge move. Use this to your advantage when battling them as a way to store up extra energy on charge hits or avoid being hit two much

If in doubt make sure your Pokemon are powered up as high as you can manage and where possible ensure they have two charge movee unlocked to give you the most variety in battle

Depending on the team he has, Arlo can be a little tricky, Dragons like Salamence and Dragonite can hit hard and Steel typings are always challenging. Exeggucute is the only one of the three leaders first Pokemon that has a dual typing.

Providing you have a team of levelled up Pokemon and follow the advice above, Arlo shouldnt pose too many threats provided you ensure your using a type advantage against him
