Team GO Rocket grunt guide October 2022

Team GO rocket grunts

The team GO Rocket grunts are a common sight in Pokemon GO. They appear randomly at Pokestops throughout the game and in the rocket balloons every 6 hours unless there is a Team GO rocket event running (in which case the balloon frequency will be faster)

Beating the rocket grunts rewards stardust and an encounter with one of their shadow Pokemon. This is the only way to get shadow Pokemon and as such is defiantly worth doing everytime you see one.

Completing 6 rocket grunts rewards enough components to form a rocket radar and earn the chance to enounter one of the rocket leaders: Cliff, Sierra or Arlo

This article will give a guide to every rocket grunt you can encounter and their potential team options as of October 2022. Rocket grunts will change their Pokemon teams periodically so keep checking back for updated guides as their teams change

Thoughts on Rocket Grunts

There is a large selection of different rocket battles you can encounter with 20 different encounters currently available

In most case rockets specialise in one type so using types that are strong against that typing will lead to success

The hardest Rocket grunt you can encounter is easily the female grunt with the Dont bother – I’ve already won. Get ready to be defeated! Winning is for winners taunt, with the option for a triple snorlax team a very tough proposition

Shadow Pokemon that come from Rocket grunts come with the charged move frustration which is unfortunate. You need to wait for a special Rocket event in order to be able to TM frustration away

Sometimes having specific teams for each potential Rocket encounter isnt always possible so using generic teams that are good against all Rocket battles can be a way to go. Examples of Pokemon that fit into this role are:

  • Dragonite
  • Melmetal
  • Lucario
  • Machamp
  • Rhypherior
  • Garchomp
  • Swampert

In grunt battles every charge move that occurs either for or against causes the grunt to not hit for approximately two fast moves. Switching Pokemon also has the same effect

Every Pokemon that faints on your team reduces the number of Premier balls you get to try and catch the subsequent shadow Pokemon

Rocket grunts do NOT use shields when you hit them with charge moves, unlike the three Rocket leaders; Cliff, Arlo and Sierra as well as the Rocket boss Giovani
